Brandi and I know that most PARENTS are aware, however some may not be. The 4th of July is a wonderful Holiday full of fun and fireworks, celebrating our Nations Independence and the sacrifice, commitment, and courage our Founding Fathers showed in the face of over whelming odds so that we as Nation could be FREE!! We wish to honor them all and a National Holiday is certainly in order.
HOWEVER, Please be advised that this, of all the days of the year, is the #1 day for PAWS to become lost, injured, or escape their Homes. Fireworks and loud noises can and often do frighten most PAWS.
If you are leaving your PAWS at home to visit a Fireworks display or go to a party, please make sure they are in the Home when you leave. Make sure all windows and points of exits are secured, and most of all make sure there is some type of comfort like your PAWS favorite toy or a kong for them to focus on. Even if your city doesn't allow fireworks, we all know there are people who still set them off.
Other things to consider is tons of water. The loud noises can bring on stress and anxiety with your PAW causing overheating. Tons of water can not be stressed enough and in separate bowls, as if they becomes skittish they may knock one of the bowls over. Water and Panting is the only way your PAW'S can cool down. Also, please exercise your PAW before leaving for the Fireworks display or party. Exercise helps relieve stress, tension, and has a calming effect on your PAW. So please take them to the dog park or for a long walk before you leave.
If you plan to attend a fireworks show and bring your PAW with you, make sure you reassure them the entire time. I know that Gracie while she is a Lab and a gun dog, she does not like loud noises. So please be aware and take appropriate measures. Make sure their collars and leash are fixed securely, and also if the noise becomes too much and your PAW is freaking out, please be kind and leave. There will always be another Fireworks Show to attend.
BRANDI AND I DO NOT WISH FOR ANY PAWS TO END UP LOST OR HURT THIS FOURTH OF JULY AS THE NUMBERS IN THE LOCAL SHELTERS SWELL EVERY YEAR AT THIS TIME, AND MANY ARE RUN OVER BY CARS AND END UP INJURED OR DEAD!!
